The castle is located in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture.
Samurai Lord, Naomori Ashina, built this in 1384. Since then, famous warlords such as Date Masamune, Gamo Ujisato, and Uesugi Kagekatsu have replaced this castle’s lord.
In 1868, during the Boshin War, the lord of Aizu holed up in this castle and fought, but was surrounded and shelled by the new government forces and was defeated. After the war, it was dismantled, and the present castle was reconstructed and rebuilt in 1965. Currently, the interior is open to the public as a museum.
In spring, the cherry blossoms around the castle are stunning. There are many cherry blossom trees around this castle, and in the spring, it is crowded with parties held while looking at the cherry blossoms.
In the fall, there is a festival where successive generations of samurai depart from this castle and parade through the streets.
The castle is surrounded by a beautiful park, which is soothing to walk through.
